I'm going to be arriving in the San Diego International Airport, and my hotel is in Encinitas (on Encinitas Boulevard). I'm just wondering what options I have getting there...the cheaper the better. Are there any alternatives to taxis, like shuttle buses? And if so, how do you get on the right shuttle bus?

This will only work if your plane arrives during the day or early evening, as my directions will have you taking the Coaster train to Encinitas. Take the public bus #992 from the airport (signs at the airport will direct you to transit bus) for a 10 minute ride to the Santa Fe Train Station downtown on Ketner and Broadway. Then take the Coaster train (blue train, NOT the red trolley)

to Encinitas which takes you near Coast Hwy and Encinitas Blvd. You'll either be walking distance to your hotel or a short bus ride, or maybe your hotel would even pick you up at the Coaster Station. One way cost of this trip is somewhere around $5. Only catch is it won't work if your plane comes in at a time when the Coaster doesn't run. By the way, it costs around $40-50 for a shuttle ride to Encinitas which is way overpriced. Do the Coaster instead if possible. Prettier scenery too.

(By the way, if you come in on a Sunday the Coaster doesn't run...but not out of luck. You could still take the bus to Santa Fe Train Station and take an Amtrak train to Solana Beach and get a taxi or public bus to Encinitas from there...but not so much of a $ savings if you do it that way.)

There are lots of passions to follow in San Diego and this hotelbye is the place to start discovers what San Diego has to offer. In the San Diego holiday you will stage outside of your safe place and you'll investigate new actions while you're here and you might only realize that exploring a fresh goal is an experience in itself. One of the places must see from San Diego is Balboa Park. That park has around a 1400 acre and here you will find traditional houses, numerous museums, gardens, and green space. The park was created for the Panama California Exhibition of 1915-1916. The predominant structure is Spanish-Mexican style, minimal stage houses that merge with the normal surroundings. On the list of shows of the park will be the Botanical Gardens and lily lake, the Museum of Man, the Museum of Natural History, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the popular San Diego Zoo. Even though you never go into a making the park is just a beautiful place.

Forget the bus, take The Coaster. It's much faster. Take the shuttle bus, Route 992, from the airport to the Santa Fe Depot train station (12 minute trip). Buy a ticket and hop on The Coaster. It leaves you in the middle of downtown Encinitas. Sit on the left. The train tracks run right along the ocean. It's a beautiful view.
