Whether they were overplayed or for other reasons.

For me it would be Senses Fail.

~*taytay... - The reason I'm saying this is because a certain band will get overplayed and all these new fans that just like the songs on the radio come about. Do you think thats better than the fans that like all their earlier stuff, and loved them even when they weren't on the radio?

Tay tay - You crack me up. I never said anything about hating. Sometimes people just mature and understand things differently. Sounds like you take things too seriously so I will just leave it at that. Much love. :]

Pink Floyd - I bought the Piper at the Gates of Dawn album the year it came out, followed by Saucerful of Secrets, More (soundtrack), Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Obscured by Clouds, and was a huge fan up until Dark Side of the Moon was released. I admit I liked the album for about a year or so, then FM radio really killed my appreciation for the band. Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall had the same negative effect on me as well. Too bad.
I still enjoy anything pre Dark Side of the Moon.

Edit - Sarah C - Alive?? If you call being semi comatose in a drug induced state for several years alive...well OK then, I guess I was!
Also, at our company Christmas party a few years ago one of our CEO's received a 'Dark Side of the Moon' neck tie. Each Friday (casual Friday) he wears this stupid thing around the office! You know when this happens, that your favorite band has finally made it big time!
Are there any Green Day or MCR neck ties out there???
I think not!

I guess the Pink Floyd thing can be compared to many of the Seattle grunge bands of the late 80's-early 90's. Once many of those groups hit the big times, they lost many of their earlier fans, but at the same time gained many more.
The same can be said for so many of the NYC and London punk bands of the 70's, and several of the NWoBHM bands of the late 70's early 80's.

Embarrassed to share this, but I used to be a huge MCR fan.
I have their previous stuff and thought they were amazing.
Then the Black Parade came along and I just thought, "Wait, what happened?"
That CD sounds nothing like their older stuff. 3 Cheers and Bullets have this different feeling about them. It's kinda hard to explain, but it seems more real and true while Parade seems like it was written and recorded and it was done.
Now, I'm not a hater of MCR just one of those disappointed past fans. Maybe if their next CD is better I'll get into them again and just change the channel each time MTV or the radio plays them which might be hard considering the fact they're always on.

I just to like Matchbox 20, but after Rob Thomas sang with Santana, evryone knows about them and I lost interest. The same happen with another band called Mago de Oz.

Hmm... Bullet For My Valentine. I knew them before they were ever played on the radio. I havn't lost interest in them though. And Escape The Fate, yep knew them too, before they were played on Fuse. Sucks. I havn't quit liking either of these bands because I'm not gonna let other people obsessing over them bother me, lol.

there's been a ton of bands that were good for little while, but after a few listens one realizes that they're not that good...which tends to coincide with a sudden rise in their popularity. I'd say mcr, p!atd, cute is what we aim for, from first to last, the spill canvas, say anything would fall into that category for me. there's also been a number of bands that just kind of got crappy after while, like they lost what made them unique and fun.

Paramore, I guess, but I wouldn't say I've lost interest in them. They're from my area, so I've been a fan since 2003. I'd never stop listening to a band simply because they've become mainstream or because they're on MTV or whatever, but I was just very disappointed with RIOT! Not that it was bad, it's just definitely not on par with All We Know Is Falling, but I'm still expecting their next album to really impress me. I don't know, even though they're really famous now, I feel bad for how "notorious" they've become.

I would say Chiodos- they are my favorite band and it's not that I have lost interest, but there are sooooo many poser -emo kids that like them now, its ridiculous. I used to love being the only kid at my school with a Chiodos shirt, now it is almost cliche to have one. oh well.
