why does this happen i only got this recorder last week what it means i can not record anything especillay if i want to copy and burn the dvd disc on to another disc

Take it back.
If it's only a week old and already defective, you have every right to return it to the shop and get a refund or replacement.
If you decide on replacement, get a Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic or Toshiba. Unfortunately, LG products aren't very good quality anyway.
