A rectangular swimming pool measuring 10 m by 4 m is surrounded by a deck of uniform width. The combined area of the deck and the pool is 135 m2(squared). What is the width of the deck?

The deck is 9x15, so its width is either 9m or 15m, depending which dimension you're calling the width.

If x is the width of the deck, then (10 + x) times (4 + x) = 135 is the equation you want. Solve from there.
