In the books the hero eventually starts in own country in the western United States, which is attacked by the Eastern half of the U.S

I have been wracking my brain trying to remember the name of this series.

I know the series was at least 10 books

It is not the series "The Survivalist" by Ahern

After the hero and a lot of his "army", travel on the interstates going west and face many problems.
The series goes into much detail on his new government, which is Very independent
