My daughters boyfriend has just been told to pack his bags and get out, she's a single mother and can sometimes be quite abusive!

if hes 16 and isn't being abusive then its illegal so the parent may go to jail

Did he have a rental agreement? Did he pay rent? Is she his legal guardian?
If not, it sounds like he was a houseguest, and I don't think she has any legal obligation to allow him to stay in her home.
Question: Is she evicting her own son? If so, that's probably illegal.

Yes. He's basically her property (as a matter of speaking) until he's 18.
