Went with an AA group for a meeting in Oahu Prison in Hawaii. Will never forget the feeling as those heavy doors kept clanging shut behind me and I was going deeper and deeper into that immense grey building. Everything is concrete and the people are just as hard.
The attendees at the meeting were quiet and seemed to be serious about it which put me at ease. I guess I talked about freedom being a state of mind or some assinine thing.
It scared me forever straight--I was less than 3 mo. sober.

Yea, I've visited someone in jail and in prison, not a relation though. The guy in prison is a friend of my husband who's been in for 30 years, and he has at least 15 more to go. First he was in Walla Walla state penn, he got transferred to Monroe state penn.

When I was little, there were tour boats off of City Island, NY.....However, my mom, brother and I got on the wrong boat one time....the one to Ryker's Island!!
We didn't know it until someone asked us who we were 'going to visit'. On finding we only thought we were taking the tour boat...they wouldn't let us out at the other end...we had to stay in the boat until they were ready to go back.

Much more recently the son of a friend got arrested, and I wanted to go visit him...I got there and waited, went through metal detectors, etc.....only to find that one needed to be an immediate relative to get in.

So, no...I never actually got to visit anyone in prison.
