Winston Churchill became Prime Minister when Lord Halifax declined to sit in the House of Commons due to the rules about peers sitting in the lower house.
Lucky really because I dont think Halifax would have had the bottle to stand up to Hitler after the offer of negotiated peace in July 1940.

The country should have been mentioned in the question as there are many countries with Prime Ministers, so as the answers come in, it is only being "assumed" you are asking about Great Brittain, and the answer is of course, Winston Churchill, who served from 1940-1945 (era of WWII) and then again 1951-1955.

The best photo of Winston was taken in Canada while he had been on a visit to the USA and was at the Senate where he gave a speech. The photographer [cannot remember his name] snatched Winston's cigar from his mouth, proclaiming, "I do not allow smoking in my studio". Winston was just coming nicely to the boil when the photo was taken. It's brilliant. There's another one of Winston holding a Tommy-Gun the type used by the Mafia and the US-Army.

I am making two assumptions:
1.The country is Great Britain;
2. You are joking about your question.

Neville Chamberlin.
Winston Churchill was put in charge of the war time coalition government for the period of the war but was never 'Prime Minister' during the conflict.
