We use the 3M Scotch Safe release painters tape and you can wait a week with that tape. It's excellent. If that's what you used wait until it's completely dry

I have tried it both ways to see what would work better. I've found that when the tape is real wet it won't form a straight line along the tape if peeled away too soon. Wait an half hour if it is latex and then peel away. If it is semi gloss waite an hour. The paint may be still tacky or seem dry on the surface and will leave that straight edge instead of ripply or jagged. You won't have to use a razor to break the paint seal from tape to wall. Watch what kind of tape your taping with too!

If you used painter's tape you can wait as long as a week after drying and the paint will be ok.

If you used masking tape it won't be a pretty picture. Get it off carefully after it dries. Do it slowly and have an exacto knife so if the paint comes off you can separate it from the tape. Then use a 2" tapered cut-in brush and touch up any bad spots.

I hope you used 3M Blue Tape. Remove the tape while the paint is wet. Waiting will allow the paint to tear when it dries, and pulling the tape now will also allow you to wipe off any excess paint on the trim by using a wet rag.

Wait for a couple of hours for the paint to dry then lightly score the edge of the tape with a sharp razor blade while pulling away the tape.

Just AFTER you apply any coat. You need not score if you remove it immediately.
