"Back When"
Don't you remember
The fizz in a pepper
Peanuts in a bottle
At ten, two and four
A fried bologna sandwich
With mayo and tomato
Sittin' round the table
Don't happen much anymore
We got too complicated
It's all way over-rated
I like the old and out-dated
Way of life
Back when a hoe was a hoe
Coke was a coke
And crack's what you were doing
When you were cracking jokes
Back when a screw was a screw
The wind was all that blew
And when you said I'm down with that
Well it meant you had the flu
I miss back when
I miss back when
I miss back when
I love my records
Black, shiny vinyl
Clicks and pops
And white noise
Man they sounded fine
I had my favorite stations
The ones that played them all
Country, soul and rock-and-roll
What happened to those times?
I'm readin' Street Slang For Dummies
Cause they put pop in my country
I want more for my money
The way it was back then
Back when a hoe was a hoe
Coke was a coke
And crack's what you were doing
When you were cracking jokes
Back when a screw was a screw
The wind was all that blew
And when you said I'm down with that
Well it meant you had the flu
I miss back when
I miss back when
I miss back when
Give me a flat top for strumming
I want the whole world to be humming
Just keep it coming
The way it was back then
Back when a hoe was a hoe
Coke was a coke
And crack's what you were doing
When you were cracking jokes
Back when a screw was a screw
The wind was all that blew
And when you said I'm down with that
Well it meant you had the flu
I miss back when
I miss back when
I miss back when

The wild, wild west and the beginning of the 50 states. A time when there were still territories and you could go out and stake a claim on a piece of land for free. When Indians were first started to be looked as in a negative light which was wrong because we were running them off their land. When cowboys wore only cowboy gear and really slept under the stars at night, no ATVs, motorcycles and 4 wheel drives to help herd. A time when the railroad was considered classy transportation and the rich even had their own railway cars. A time when food was grown fresh and only perishables that could be canned (in glass jars) had any shelf life. A time when your house was built out of trees and whatever resources you had near you. A time when gathering around the fire in the home each and everynight meant family time and a form of heat. A time when families sat down at the dinner table and ate as one. A time when hard work and sweat really meant living or dying. If you didn't work you didn't eat. A time when all got together to help build barns and there was cooperation when it came time to pull crops up.
A time when people still cared about others and were willing to share anything they had. A time when there were still morals and values. A time when family was everything.
I wasn't alive then but through relatives I hear about it.

Anytime before the 1930's.
Seems like times were better, even though not everyone had indoor toilets.
Family seems to be the important thing to most in those days.
We are spoiled by all the modern consciences and technology.
We can't live with it and we can't live without it.
