We recently moved into a new home. It has a dishwasher in it and a garbage disposal. The dishwasher pulls food from the disposal. My dishes are worse coming out than going in and incrusted with ground up food. Is my disposal full?? If so how do you empty them or do you have to buya new one?? I don't think it is the dishwasher but that is a definite possiblity! Any ideas??

first thing to do is determine if the knock out for the dishwasher has been removed.the disposal has a plastic knock out, that is located inside of the drain connection to the dishwasher, the purpose of this is for people who have a disposal and no dishwasher, the easiest way to check this is to start your dishwasher when it has water in it and look inside of your disposal you should see water being pumped in from the dishwasher,if you do then the knock out has already been removed which is good.if you do not see the water going into the disposal remove the knock out, next check the hose going from the disposal to the dish washer the hose should go up from the disposal and then down to the dishwasher a easy way of doing this is to use a c-clamp to hold it in place, what happens in this situation is,if the hose is going down from the disposal and then to the dishwasher water is draining is draining into the dishwasher every time you run water into your.if you would to check this out.turn on your water and open your dishwasher and watch the water rise in your dishwasher, good luck

Your problem may be an easy fix.

1. Look under the sink and locate the drain line coming from the dishwasher and going to the drain system. It may be going directly into the dishwasher.

2. Find the drain that leads into the wall. That is where all of your water from the sink, dishwasher, and garbage disposal is being lead out to.

3. Make sure that the line coming from the dishwasher (there should be a fair amount of slack) is up HIGHER than the drain going out through the wall. Getting it up to that point should solve your problem.
