That's a common problem and it seems to be a problem to gardeners from Western New York through the Midwest. The best you can do is caulk and seal potential entry points to your house (around widows and where the walls meet the under hang of the roof.) Check to make sure the gable end vents vents are screened and in good condition too.

Pesticides don't usually work for box elder bugs. I'll also spray concentrations of them off my house with a hose to make myself feel good. I vacuum up those who make it inside. It's just one of the joys of country living out here.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Where do you live???? in the western states it's easy..Around New England it is more difficult...There are some insecticides that will slow them down..The thing that is hard to get around here is the insecticide that bumps off FIRE ANTS..Not common in N.E. stores.. They can order the stuff. Most hardware stores are too lazy..Read the labels. But I know that the fire ant stuff also is made to snuff out Box Elders...By the way.....Do you have any Box Elder trees around your house, I'll bet you do..The Box Elders are the kind of scraggly trees with rough bark. The female trees are the biggest attraction for the bugs...The female Box Elder is the one with a bunch of winged seed pods ( aka propellers) still on the tree...Cut the damn thing down and the bugs will disappear next year.....

Remove the box elder trees from near your house or move.

wash your house with a mild soap/water spray, this kills the little buggers
