I absolutely love Christmas and i am getting sick and tired of people trying to put a downer on it! All this nonsense of upsetting people of other religions, its so not true, i went to a school where 80% of the children were from a different religion, mainly muslim, and they were the nicest of people. They wanted to know about it and even used to give me a card and a little present! And about being commercialised and not about the religious part anymore, well talk for yourselves, i am catholic and celebrate xmas for the right reason and i've made sure my children know what is meant to be about! I also know what is like to be sad as i lost my mum around xmas time a few years back so its not as if i dont know what its like to have a bad year. If all this comments were being said about a different religious festival, they would be classed as racist. So why is it ok for people to say things like that about xmas? Do you love or hate it? And why? And i want a good reason if you dont!!

I absolutely love christmas! Its my favorite time of year. Already I'm getting pumped up about it and its still almost 2 months away!!! I'm due to have a baby in 4 days, and i'm SOOO excited to teach it everything there is to know about christmas, and I hope no one ever wrecks it for my child. I dont understand some people's beliefs either, but I just stick to myself and how I feel about it because it is such a beautiful time of year:)

Merry Christmas!!! (when it comes, of course) :) hah

Nobody is trying to stop anyone in this country celebrating or enjoying Christmas.

It's a scare story that the right-wing press and the racists like to push, to make people believe that their harmless everyday activities are somehow under threat from incomers to our country.

Even the hapless think tank report last week only said that it would be reasonable to celebrate some non-Christian festivals as well, but the Daily Mail and their ilk chose to portray that as "Labour government want to ban Xmas"

Yours is far closer to the true experience of people in this country - that non-Christians are happy to join in and celebrate Christmas alongside the rest of us.

I can't claim to be a lover of Christmas (grumpy old man moans about spending too much money on gifts for people I don't really like and over-commercialisation, and that's before we see what crap they put on the TV!), but for those who find true meaning in it, it's a special celebration and they should enjoy it.

Can I be the first to wish you and your family a very merry Christmas for 2007.

EDIT: I've just looked above, and no, I can't be the first!!

I like Christmas myself...but I have to be honest when I say that it is a very Pagan holiday.

Sure, Christmas is meant to be a time to celebrate Jesus' birth...but a lot of the traditions (lights, gifts, peppermint candy, Christmas trees, etc) come from a time before there was Christianity. Don't get me wrong, I attend a Baptist church...but I heard rumors about the Pagan themes behind Christmas and wanted to know the truth...

If you feel like researching this yourself and you are NOT afraid of digging into other religions a little bit, then I recommend this book:

I'm with you all the way! I no longer believe in god, but Christmas is about more than being a Christian. It's the season that people of ALL ages look forward to, and it's the saddo's here and there in County and Town Councils, local government offices, etc, that come up with all the nonsense about offending people of other religions. It's strictly in their tiny, closed minds! like you, I live in the real world, and I have never, ever met ANYONE who objected or felt put out about Christmas. CHRISTMAS FOREVER!

I myself love xmas i love the hype that goes with it, I cant wait from one year to the next. Even though my kids are getting older I still decorate the house and my garden brings delight to all the kids around som maybe think its over the top, but after all we are deep down celebrating a wonderful time of year and a very special person. Although I agree that where presents are concerned it is definatley going over the top and many forget the real reason. But ho! ho! merry christmas to all. looking forward to see wot santa brings me. lol

I'm an atheist, and I like christmas. To me, it's a fun family holiday. I don't mind if other people celebrate a religious aspect to it, as long as they don't force it on me.

Your foreign friends sound very thoughtful. Did you return the favor, and give them things for their holidays, ask about their beliefs, etc?

The commercialization of the holiday annoys me some, but that's what the majority of americans want - they want to give gifts, they want to travel, they want to see family then. So they tolerate the commercialization. Besides, a lot of stores make the majority of their profits during the christmas season. They may just break even or lose money during the rest of the year, but christmas makes up for it. If you take away that part of their business, you may suddenly either lose a lot of choice in where you shop the rest of the year, or you may pay more for items in order to keep the store in business.

Apart from the religious aspect, Christmas always has been a time to get together with friends and family. No one can take that away. We're subject to alot of PC Bull these days and I dread to think that Christmas might be the next victim.

i LOVE christmas, but i just hate the fact that it's like the time that a lot of people are getting greedy with money. every single time i turn on the tv, there are commericials filled with people always wanting to make money off of something. it takes a lot off of the true meaning of christmas, i always say. anyways, yeah, i LOVE christmas, and I go to a a very diverse school filled with a lot of religious backgrounds and i'm very pleased that i still have not met a non catholic or christian person who talks bad about christmas.

Where I live we are supposed to call it winterville so we dont offend anyone!
Why would anyone be offended! Im not a Christian but I am not offended by christmas. I dont really understand, the world has gone PC mad. If I went to another country and it was a particular festival I wouldnt get offended as its their right to celebrate. Its not like celebrating christmas involves attacking other religions. Its soo stupid, and if anything being told we cant call it christmas is offensive!
