No matter who the manufacturer is, there are good and bad units in all brands of cars, imported and domestic.
My husband and I drove GM built cars for many years, then changed to Chrysler products, and for the last fifteen years have been with Ford products, and have been well satisfied.
There are many different opinions, that's why they still make more than one brand, one size does not fit all.
Just try to buy American.

Well I say go with what you really want and make someone else help you with the research. Scion is a great little car. Most car companies have thier crap cars. Looks like 2006 Scion xB is about the best out there. Havent heard much negative. Mariner is a gas hog at 18 mpg city. Where as Scion xB will give you about 28 mpg. Good luck and happy hunting!! By the way this is an interesting article on mercury http://www.motorauthority.com/news/industry/end-of-the-road-for-mercury/ Click on the link. Just thought you might like to look into the ever dying company of Mercury.

Ford just beat Nissan and is on par with Toyota in quality. They are also the 10th most reliable car manufacturer in the world. Mercury is 8th. The Explorers from 2002-2005 Explorers were not the most reliable car on the road, but the new ones have drastically improved. Mercury has also had a history of being reliable. Here are the specs, pictures, and options for the Mariner: http://www.mercuryvehicles.com/mariner/

Oh yeah, and the Mariners have killer gas mileage that isn't provided on most SUVs.

I drive a ford truck. My wife has a ford Escape. The Mariner is Merc's version of the Escape, I think. Both have been great vehicles. Hers had a problem with the cruise control that cost a bit to get fixed, but it never affected the driveability. It does reasonably well on gas, drives well, and hauls 4 people with reasonable luggage all day long. I wouldn't want to tow anything heavy with it, but if you want a light-weight SUV, this is one to consider.

They both suck, but there better than the junk that comes from Japan or Korea. And pickups do not make you masculine at all.
