Is it alright to switch from Regular Oil to Synthetic? I have a BMW 97 328i. w/120k miles. Is it alright to switch over to Synthetic?
Also have a 2003 Toyota Camry w/100k miles. Is it alright to switch over to Synthetic oil?

Yes, it wil be fine to change to synthetic oil. AS it says, it has an additive to greatly cut down on friction. Which is the #1 cause of sludge and buildup on older engines, (your BMW), and wil prevent the beginning of these problems on newer engines, (your Toyota). Also, if you are beginning to notice any smoke from either vehicle, it will reduce if the problem is something as small as valve stem seals. So yes, it is deffinatly safe to switch. I have a '93 Explorer w/232,000 miles and still going strong. Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. A little expensive, but worth it.

I did this when I had my caddillac. You must still use a qt of oil to 2 qts of synthetic, but your vehicle will run better. Less wear and tear on the parts. Never had a problem after that.
