In order for a plant to grow, it needs light from the sun. It uses the light to produce its own food through photosynthesis. Generally, as sunlight intensity increases, so does the photosynthesis process. This means greater food production for the plant. Many plants exhibit an ability to follow the sun. This helps to maximize the sunlight falling on their leaves and increases food production. The ability of a plant to follow the sun during the day is called helitropism. The ability of a plant to grow towards the light is called phototropism.

The light from the sun is what activates photosynthesis, allowing the plant to process nutrients from soil and water. If the head follows the sun, it can process nutrients longer.

It likes the sun, that's where it get its energy. Isn't that neat. Many plants have that adaptation, especially in their leaves.
