yes there is, the 87 octane is your lowest grade that most cars use and the 93 is for high performance engines and has the highest octane rating.

A lot. If your cars reacquires 93 and you put in 87 you could ruin it. A lot of idiots here will tell you that you can run it and the computer will allow for the difference. They have no idea what there talking about. The car manufacture designed the car to run on the higher octane for a reason. I think they know more about the cars requirements than the cheapskates who only worry about saving a few pennies at the pump Just look at it this way the 5 to 10 cents you save at the pump could cost you thousands later on.

The octane rating of gasoline tells you how much the fuel can be compressed before it spontaneously ignites. When gas ignites by compression rather than because of the spark from the spark plug, it causes knocking in the engine. Knocking can damage an engine, so it is not something you want to have happening. Lower-octane gas (like "regular" 87-octane gasoline) can handle the least amount of compression before igniting.

That's the Octane. In the newer cars of today it makes no difference. Even the owner's manual tells you to use regular unleaded gas (87). They say that high octane is really just a waste of money.
