I have a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and have passed the FE/EIT exam but, unfortunately, am in a region void of any industry or opportunity to use my degree to gain valuable work experience. With no real job prospects in sight, I was contemplating starting my own business to use the skills and experiences I have in a contract/consulting type service. Is a professional engineering license required to provide mechanical design and analysis services (part design, tool and fixture design, engineering and patent drawings, FEA, etc.)?

While a P.E. certification may not be 'required' I can say that most companies would not contract an engineer or consultant that didn't bother to get one.

i think you would pick the PE license. in the different case, you'll nicely be accused of practising engineering and not using a license. likely couldn't get professional criminal duty coverage with out it, both. The PE is appreciably referred to as a certification of professional competence. keep searching for an danger to do layout paintings below a PE - it is the way you get the adventure needed to take the PE exam. good success.
