I believe both of these compounds are water soluble, so solubility properties would be difficult to distinguish. However, if you took solutions of each and added hydrochloric acid to each, the acetamide pH would fall as the pKa of it is very low and so it will not protonate readily. Methylamine is basic and so will bind to the acid and the pH of the solution will not change in the way the acetamide does. However, I don't know these constitute a reaction in the sense of the question.

If you reacted each with acetic anhydride, the methylamine would react to give N-methylacetamide while acetamide would not react.

acetamide is a solid, methylamine is a gas.

if you have a solution instead just use a ph universal indicator, methylamine is very basic, acetamide is not.

I suspect that Ninhydrin will react very differently, making a blue or purple color at really lower temps for methylamine. (acetamide is slower at reacting)

yo methyl amine would have amonial and pungent odor and ofcourse gaseous. onthe other hand acetamide is white powder and nosmell! Yo

Methylamine will readily dissolve in dilute HCl. Ethanamide won't.
