"Who invented the computer?" is not a question with a simple answer. The real answer is that many inventors contributed to the history of computers and that a computer is a complex piece of machinery made up of many parts, each of which can be considered a separate invention.
This series covers many of the major milestones in computer history (but not all of them) with a concentration on the history of personal home computers.
In 1936 Konrad Zuse - (Z1 Computer) "Invented" the first freely programmable computer.

Mr Babbage built a huge computer that had very little power to work with. Thant was before my time.
I remember seeing a giant punch card processing computer during the late 60s and buying a basic personal computer you had to programme yourself in the 70s. I was really thankful when Bill Gate finished growing up and designed the Windows operating system. It saved me hours and months of programming.

Those dang Americans. They also invented the internet, electric lights, the movies and the telephone. They did not invent the ideas of cars or planes, but they sure made them cheap and easy to manufacture and use.

Steve Wozniak's Apple II personal computer - introduced in 1977 and featuring a central processing unit (CPU), keyboard, floppy disk drive and a $1,300 price tag - helped launch the PC industry. In 1980, just a little more than four years after being founded, Apple went public.

The computer as you know and use was not invented by one person, it is a result of teamwork, just the fame of the issue was given to one of the team.
