Im told by a friend that ive got a hernia. Its a lump, just below my belt line, kind of goes down to my testicles, about the size of a golf ball or maybe a little smaller. When i push it in it kind of pops in, but then comes out again. It doesnt hurt when im lying down but when im stood, moving or sat it causes me pain.
Anyone ever had a hernia? And did you have to have surgery?

Not personally, but they can cause severe probs if the situation occurs when it won't pop back,or it comes out , twists on itself, and then wont go back, without surgery you are up Pooh creek. Seek medical advise .

I had a sports hernia when I was 22, in my lower abdominal area.
I ended up having minor surgery that lasted only about 1 hour 15 mins.
It healed in about 4-6 weeks.
Then you just have to build up the muscle strength again, but SLOWLY because you dont want to have to go back for a revision on it.

yes ...I had one repaired some months ago actually. Mine didn't give me any problems at all but it was recommended that I had it seen to. I play squash and also am required to lift and shift people in awkward situations so I was given 4 weeks recoup but I felt I could have gone back to work and played a game of squash as soon as I woke up from the op. I experienced no pain and I was out of hospital the same day.
Don't put it off.... get it done before it worsens. They can strangulate and then you really do have problems.

my husband had a hernia, years ago, when he was 27. (he's 49 now) and he saw the doctor, who referred him for surgey. He had an operation to repair the hernia, as an out-patient. He had a couple of weeks of work, and was told not to do any lifting or driving for a short time

These sort of common health issues can now be repaired fairly simply by minor surgery
I suggest that you go along to GP and ask for a referral

I had hernia.Left side.An organ protruding into another place is hernia.Normally it is intestine. If it is not corrected it may create problems.Belts, homeopathy ,naturopathy are all absolutely useless as per my experience. It can be surgically corrected,It is a minor surgery and you can leave hospital in a week.subsequently some rest is required.I had got corrected it surgically 15 years back.No problem till now.Go early and see your doctor and follow his directions.
