Hey there!

basically, i have a computer at home, but i am going to college next year, not moving away, but it might be good if i had a laptop that was really light and i could take anywhere with me.

most laptops are about £400, but nice ones like vaio are £600.£800, £1,3000 pounds!

i am getting a job, only working one day a week as i am 16, so i get about £170s a month which is about $340 maybe??

so if i bought a asus, i could get it really quick like two months, and have money over to save for a car!

but am i just wasting my money?

thank you!

The computer is still very new, just released in USA on October 31st and the one I ordered is due to arrive tomorrow (according to the courier).

I've had a lot of computers and the EEE is not like most other laptops out there.

As a student its weight and battery life will be a huge advantage. There is nothing in the price range that can come close. It won't weigh you down and won't run out on you during extended study.

Its got all the applications you need as a student and the INTEL (not VIA as someone else said) processor will run fast enough to get things done. But it is only a 900Mhz processor when everything else is in the 2000-3000 range.

It has no hard drive for downloading movies or storing an MP3 library. Only a small flash drive for storing your work. You can add extra storage but that adds to the weight and price.

Also it runs LINUX which is awesome to avoid viruses and get work done but worthless for playing games.

Quick version:

If you want a lightweight, long lasting computer to get your work done and surf the internet -- get the EEE.

If you want something to play games, expand later, or do things which require computer horsepower avoid the EEE.

Great. Go ahead and get your Comp. But dont walk before you can crawl. Your still only sixteen and surely the car can wait. I was 25 before I got my first car. A car will keep you poor. lol

People haven't answered too quickly, because it just came to market recently. Initial reviews indicate it's basically a lame duck. Slow VIA CPU, small hard drive, etc.

You'd be better to save for a mainstream brand name laptop.

If you need it for college than it would be a great investment for you.

I think that if you work to save money for your laptop, then you will teach you how to appreciate hard earned cash.

Good luck to you.
