Hi everyone, this is a poll for my AP US Government and Politics class, and I'd really appreciate it if as many people as possible gave their opinions;

QUESTION:
On October 3rd, President Bush vetoed $35 billion for the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), a bill that funds coverage for 6.6 million children of families who earn too little to afford health insurance but too much to qualify for Medicaid. Have you heard about the SCHIP Bill, and are you in favor or against it?

(A) Strongly favor
(B) Somewhat favor
(C) Somewhat oppose
(D) Strongly oppose
(E) Haven't heard or read about it

Also, if it wouldn't be a hassle, can you include what political label (conservative, liberal, libertarian, etc) that you associate yourself with?? Thank you so much! =]

Totally Oppose:

I an an educated independent.

The latest modification to SCHIP uses the median income determined by the BEA as opposed to the modality of income determined by the Census to determine "poor".

If you have no idea what I am talking about you should answer E.

I am familiar with SCHIP. Your question falls short of the main issue. The President vetoed the bill because it tried to expand coverage to people who do not qualify for government handouts. Those people have their own insurance and can afford to buy their own insurance.
The President wants to limit SCHIP to children who need the program.

I am opposed to SCHIP because it is socialism. I don't have children of my own. I don't plan to have children. I don't want the government taking tax money from me to give to someone else.

I am a registered Democrat and am conservative.

I'm in favor of the original intent of the program. I'm not in favor of the add-ons that were made by Democrats in this latest version. 25 year olds are not children and shouldn't be included in SCHIP, nor should families earning up to $80,000.00 The taxpayers should not be asked to fund these groups of able-bodied people.

D / Center leaning right / Already in place it is called SCHIPs, been in place for sometime and still one third of parents who are eligible for it or Medicare have not enrolled. Before we add a higher level of income to an existing program we need to insure that the current (poorest of the poor) children are covered. Are you interested in children or interested in bashing bush? I am for the children of this country and strongly believe that the House should play the most important part (both parities). They have districts, if they could go door to door to get votes and drive the poorest to the voting booths then by god they can do the same for the children in health care. They and their staff have plenty of time away from Washington to do just that, four weeks off for labor day would have been a perfect time.

I have no problem with the bill, but I think the POTUS vetoed it because of the millions and millions of pork projects attached to the bill.

Having said that, if they had a bill that was just the SCHIP Bill, then I would be in favor of it.

I strongly oppose this bill. the government isn't meant to be contained in the wellbeing care employer. The ability of investment this bill falls on cigarette sales. It ability that some thing like 22 million new human beings who smoke would be had to maintain this software afloat. on account that each little thing in need of execution is being completed to ward off human beings who smoke from smoking, the place do you assume the money will at last come from? " ... for the chiiildren " mentality is starting to be risky. Edging in the direction of libertarian with each passing day.

D
As currently written the income level ( $80,000.00 ) is too high and the age limit is also too high.
Also this should be an individual state issue and funded by the individual states.
Not something forced on the states.

B. Independent. I'm not sure the bill Bush vetoed is the best product for those who need the help, but something needs to be done.
