This is for menopausal women. I am at the tail end of menopause. My hot flashes had subsided. Then suddenly they returned, with a vengence. I wondered why and began looking for a pattern. I am a smoker. The pattern was everytime I finished a cigarette I broke out into horrible sweat. I smoked Mistys Ultra Light. Since I am not going to stop smoking anytime soon I decided to switch brands. The outrageous sweats ended. Immediately.
I thought I would share this with you in case anyone else was experiencing a similar situation. I know I shouldn't smoke. But that is a different subject.

Your information was EXTREMELY interesting to me, since I am in the same state you are, but I was having similar problems, but didn't think about my smoking habits changing and comparing that to the frequency of my hot flashes. I'm about 3-4 years past menopuase, was still having terrible hot flashes. I did switch what I was smoking about two months ago, though, and now have no hot flashes ... but I had to 'switch back' for a couple of days at the end of last week, and I got a few bad hot flashes again. Now, I don't have them any more. I don't know if this 'means' anything, and I do have other serious health issues, but I am certainly going to talk with my doctor about your question and what I've noticed. I do want to quit smoking, but am under too much pressure from others to do it, and I am very 'independent and stubborn' ... but if smoking can 'change' the hot flash frequency and intensity, I may actually be able to quit more easily, because I HATE those hot flashes. I am starting to re-grow my long hair again, FINALLY after having to have it cut very short and permed because it was too hot, and I am looking forward to having long hair again ... so out with the hot flashes, and in with the no-smoking and wearing my hair long again for me. THANK YOU! Yes, it WAS information I needed ... and you may have saved my 'life.'

That is strange and we both smoke the same brand of cigarettes! I question the validity of the coincidence between the brand of cigarettes and the sweats from hot flashes. I am post-menopausal as I had cancer and a hysterectomy at 32 years old, but still experiences sweating at times. It's great that you took notice of when they occurred and what was causing it. I am happy that you found a solution. I hope you have no more hot flashes.
Why do we have to sit here and type that we know we should quit and we already know that and the consequences? I know the answer is that we would get a barrage of comments about smoking. People should stick to the subject.

I gave up the smoking some years ago, but have had hot flushes since I was 29. Having an ovary removed can do that. However, at 56 I think it is time for the menopause to finally vanish.

Hi and good luck. I was a smoker but was finally ready to quit and made that transition. However I also will go in and out of menopause so I don't see any correlation to the smoking and menopause symptoms. I eat a lot of soy products that have helped me more than anything.

That's interesting! I found that sometimes mine came on when I drank alcohol. I didn't drink on a daily basis, so it was never really an "issue". I'm a smoker, too, but I never noticed a relationship with that. For the most part, the hot flashes have gone now. I do get one every so often, but not very often.

Mine just began, thanks for the info. If I tried to quit smoking, I would be homicidal along with my menopause.
