18 (in most places) is th legal age to get married without parental consent.

21 (in most states) is the legal age to drink in most states.

While liquor is a substance and it's understandable that you need to be more mature. Don't you believe marriage is something that should be left for the older crowd. I really think 21 should be the legal age to marry.

When you think about it, most 18 year olds are still in high school. My birthday is in March. Therefore, I was 18 before I even graduated from high school.

Also, the rate of divorce is higher amoung those that marry before the age of 21. The statistics prove it.

What are your opinions? I just think it's a bit crazy that young KIDS (yes, they are kids) are getting married at 18. I know college isn't for everyone. But, trade schools are benefitical and even a few years of working and saving money can be good for the individiual and the couple.

Thoughts?

There are a lot of crazy age rules in this country. For example:

16 - To get a drivers license
18 - To vote, buy cigarettes, buy porn, do porn.
21 - To Drink
25 - To rent a car

Personally I think the legal age of adulthood should be 21. That includes voting, drinking, establishing credit, buying cigarettes, and having a full time drivers license (18-21 is only a permit). I also think the voting age in this country should be raised to 30. The last thing this country needs are a bunch of 23 year old college kids protesting their own country playing a part in who runs the United States. Besides, a 30 year old working professional with a family has a much more clearer picture than some idealistic college punk.

Even though I'm WAAAAAAAAAY older than 18 and I know that drinking and driving is a serious problem in society, I have always maintained that if you're old enough to take a bullet (military), then you should be old enough to have a drink.

That said, I don't think there should be a higher age requirement for marriage. I don't think it's smart to marry at 18...or 20...or 25, but people have that right.

I don't think it would matter. Kids (18 and younger) are still having babies at this age! And I honestly don't think that raising the ages would make marraiges last any longer either, in our society divorce has become the norm no matter age or other factors play a part in it.

yes ofcource many are forced to marry at 18 by parents...it is nt fair n it should be atlease raised as 21 for grls and 25 for boys...it would reduce the divorse rate....

Hiring a lawyer for minor legal problems can be expensive, but there are websites like LawGuru, FindLaw and other places where you can get free legal advice. I found this website useful - http://www.uelp.org/freelegal.html

i think they need to raise the age of everything!if you can't drink at 18 when you're classified as an adult, then you can't get married,go to war or do anything else!the age differential of what you can do at what age is assinine!make all of it 1 age and stick to it!!!

not a bad idea.. except
you have to raise the age limit to go into the military
if you expect them to be a young man and get killed at 18
then at least they should be able to get married as such
