I like to buy socks that are all plain white. I buy them mostly so I don't have to worry about matching them up. If all your socks are identical, you can just grab two socks If you have colors etc. it takes a little more effort. I'm not a morning person for the most part, so I want very little effort first thing in the morning
I do own one pair of dress black socks for special occasions, but I keep them put up with ties and stuff

I do not like to wear plain white, but in a pinch I will if they are not visible at any time, I think they look horrible. I would rather wear no socks than plain white usually; I don't like crazy colors, just a little pattern or a subtle matching with the outfit.

I used to wear colours and white--I made catnip toys for my cats by putting catnip into the toe areas of the socks and then I knotted the socks--cats love them!!!--so I think the only matching socks I have left to wear are white.
