Conservatives like to obfuscate facts that contradict their message. Thus the discussion of the Drug War and the SUCCESSFUL approach of the EU is repressed or blunted with propaganda and Fear Mongering...sound familiar?
Conservative also do not like to talk about the success of the EU in delivering Health Care. They use the same tactic....obfuscation and repression. Can you see a pattern here? The intellectually degenerate practice of Straw Man arguments is highlighted here by a "Top Contributor" (how do they get that designation?) and he highlights quite well the tactics of conservatism are based on fear mongering and intelluctual dishonesty
I refer to John D not Brian(he is too lazy to use straw man so he goes straight to ridicule)

That's an interesting question, but a little misplaced perhaps. Plenty of Americans are perfectly aware that Canada allows gay marriage. You don't hear about it, because it's a non-issue.
The only people here that care are the far right mouth-pieces who make a good living screaming about all those evil gays, and how, if they were allowed to marry - would destroy all American families in the wink of a gay little eye!
Gay isn't a choice; it's who you are. Act on it or don't, your stuck with your orientation for life, just like you are with your eye color, or shape of your nose. But, that's boring and noncontroversial - much better to make wild claims about gay being a choice, or disease; that way paranoid American conservatives can fear it! And the mouthpieces can make a good living cashing in on that same fear!
I don't know about your "God's wrath gave us a strong dollar and better homes," but I do know that Republican spending in the states, not unlike drunken sailors gambling and plying whores has given this country a weak dollar, and a ***** of a deficit.
Canada has a stronger economy, in relative terms (California alone has a larger gdp than ALL of Canada) to the states, as it is not borrowing money willy-nilly from foreigners to pay for a foreign war at the same time that it is cutting taxes.
What America needs to borrow from Canada is a finance minister with a large stick!
As for Europe not being included in the economic discussion - it is, but usually with an emphasis on the shortcomings of socialism, of which there are several valid points.
American conservatives are terribly threatened by the prospect of socialized medicine, not because they wouldn't benefit from it - they would - but because their neighbors might benefit, too.
And that is the crux of being an American conservative: you needn't be against public spending; just so long as it benefits mostly you.
It's like social security. Every single last conservative down here will cash it when they get theirs, and spend every last dime of that "entitlement." In fact, it only becomes as entitlement when their neighbor gets the same check in their mail. Then it is offensive because the conservative realizes he has been paying into a system that also benefits people other than just himself.
Is this a little clearer now?

I didn't know gay marriage is legal in Canada. I don't really care. No matter how many same-sex couples are out there, I doubt that I'm suddenly going to start switching sides. I rather like the guy I've been giving bootie-calls for the last 30 years.
I still want to see the Canadian Rockies, though.
*Laugh* Now, as to why it isn't brought up...well, I read all the time from the net, from print media, from books. If I didn't know it, how is the "typical US " right or left going to know about it? We can't discuss what we simply do not know! Admittedly that doesn't stop some of us from forming opinions, any way.
I like this question.

The inference from your question is that making gay marriage legal in the United States will increase the GDP and making the United States more socialist will increase the GDP.
Interesting concept, become socialist and legalize gay marriage to improve your GDP.
By making the dollar cheaper the United States can make foreign labor more expensive, forcing jobs back into the United States, making US goods less expensive world wide and more exportable therefore increasing the GDP.
How you got the idea that making gay marriage legal will influence the GDP sounds like an interesting story. I don't think I care to hear it.

If gay people want to marry, it's fine with me. It's not my choice, but I don't see that it really causes any harm to anyone.
And, I could be considered part of the "US right" on most issues.

I am not threatened by gay marriage. And personally I think there are WAY bigger issues that require our attention than what consenting adults like to do behind closed doors.

They don't mention these things becaue they don't fit in with the picture they are trying to present. Simple marketing strategy, which works because American public doesn't bother to check, they just swallow whatever they are fed.
