Religion will always be a part of man, no matter how technologically advanced he is. The reason is that human nature is the same no matter what and he is prone to repeat the same mistakes. That is because history is not taught properly. So what has happened before will happen again.

Religion has proven to be a stabilizing force over countless generations of man and in many countries. Why? Because it is people as individuals, and society as a whole, recognize that they need to be held to a higher accountability than man. And that this accountability is not just in their life time but also in the one to come after they have lived their life on earth.

Religion is not an important part of being human. I'm an atheist, and last I checked there are no dead bodies hidden in my garage.

Lack of religion does not equal lack of morality. I do not kill, steal, cheat, and try as hard as possible not to lie. I treat people with compassion, and I respect life in all its forms, not just in humans. I do this because it's the right thing to do, not because some higher power told me to.

Not following a religion has not caused me to become a psychopathic serial killer. It is not necessary to humanity.

It seems that humanity is outgrowing modernity rather than religion. (Modernity gave the spiritual traditions of humanity little credit for sophistication, relegating them to examples of an immature humanity. This has been revealed, in the wake of modernity's great cruelties, to be little more than ideological posturing emanating from modernity's tendency toward absolutism.)

I think that it is entirely possible that Humans may make a fundamental shift away from religion. However I think that it is more likely that a divergence will occur between those who choose to follow religion and those who do not.

For the sake of humanity and this planet, let's hope so. These hearsay or revealed religions and their self-righteous followers are going to be the ruin of this planet if we don't put aside these petty beliefs and come together as citizens of the world. The most insane type of killing is the kind that is done in the name of God.

Think of all the brutal regimes that have a human as its leader--Saddam Hussein, Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot, and countless others. Religion is the only thing that keeps a human human. The old adage, "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely" is a undeniable truth. With no one or no God to answer to, the megalomaniac reigns supreme.
