"People line up for care; some of them die. That's what happens," Canadian doctor David Gratzer, author of The Cure, told "20/20". Gratzer thought the Canadian system was great until he started treating patients. "The more time I spent in the Canadian system, the more I came across people waiting. ... You want to see your neurologist because of your stress headache? No problem! You just have to wait six months. You want an MRI? No problem! Free as the air! You just gotta wait six months."

Frequent Fliers

British citizens are fleeing the country in record numbers to get medical treatment — in order to escape the government-run national health system. The Daily Mail reports a new survey reveals 70,000 patients are expected to fly out this year. By the end of the decade – 200,000 so-called "health tourists" will travel to destinations as far as Malaysia and South Africa to get major surgery and avoid long waiting lists and the rising threat of superbugs in public hospitals.

Well, I'd agree that having everyone covered will cause greater lines than excluding millions and having them die in a corner somewhere. I'm not sure that, even if true, which I'm sure it isn't, having a few people die waiting for care is better than having thousands or millions die because they can't get it at all, so waiting is never even an option.

The stories about waits are greatly exaggerated. Anything important or urgent is easily accessible, and, in the US, there are waiting times in the order of weeks to months to see specialists here, as well.

Let me guess, this was a typical John Stoessel fact-less hit piece, based on anecdote, conveniently excluding any evidence found to be inconvenient.

Great, another neocon argument by anecdote. Why not look at the facts?

Canadians live longer and have a lower infant mortality rate than Americans. The World Health Organization ranks the US 37th in health care, putting America in the same category as: Dominica (35); Costa Rica (36); Slovenia (38); and Cuba (39). Canada (30) certainly has room for improvement, but America is in no position to criticize.

1. The US has the most expensive healthcare system in the world. It is almost twice as expensive as every other developed nation. This is largely due to administrative costs which account for 19-25% of healthcare costs, and up to 34% at for-profit hospitals.

2. Other than South Africa, America is the only developed country in the world that does not provide healthcare for all of its citizens.

3. Yet, the US ranks 26th in infant mortality and 24th in the number of healthy years a person can expect to live.

4. And, despite ludicrous right-wing anecdotal claims of high dissatisfaction among those who live in countries with universal healthcare, the reality is that, with the exception of Italy, Americans are more dissatisfied with their healthcare than are the citizens of every other developed nation, including England, France, Germany, and Canada. Moreover, US doctors spend less time with patients that do doctors in other nations.

So, having to wait six months for a test isn't somehow better than being DENIED the test because some paper-pusher in a cube suddenly thinks it's not medically necessary? When the HMO's and PPO's make the medical decisions instead of the actual doctors who have to treat the patients??

Nobody is talking about socialism. That's a typical retardican smear tactic when they don't have a solution to a problem. I at least give her credit for trying SOMETHING.

So what's the retardican solution?? "Get a job". Well, I had a job but the company shipped it overseas, cancelled my insurance and raided my retirement fund to give the CEO a $150 million bonus. (Guess which political party he donates to??). Then I tried to get another job but it was taken by an illegal alien who Bush wants to give amnesty to. I applied for private insurance but working at minimum wage, I can't afford the monthly premium and my house payment, so the repubs think I should sell my house.

What's your answer?!?!?!?! Propose something that would actually work at helping folks caught in this downward spiral!

Well health care is a limited resource and thus needs to be rationed. I just don't think it's fair that the people who are currently paying the most for it will still be paying the most for it under Hillarycare but getting much lower quality. If she were willing to lower my taxes to make up the difference (say to put my taxes at the same dollar level of the currently uninsured) I might like it.

Hillary does no longer care about what style of acre human beings get. All she cares about motivating human beings to vote for her. like the charlatans of previous. they don't care in case you want, pick, choose, or if their product even works they merely pick to convince you to purchase. She is understanding promoting human beings something that couldn't paintings. Our emergency rooms are over crowed because they were no longer equipped to assist 18 million unlawful immigrants. tell the left to obey the regulation and deport them and we are able to ensure that problem alongside with penitentiary over crowding and preparation as well as 20 different topics in a unmarried step. **************************************... almost all of uninsured human beings except for criminal immigrants are youngsters 18-40 5 who do no longer use the well being care equipment because of cost. that's more cost-effective to pay 1000 money for a toot canal each and every few years than 600 money a month for coverage. no longer something worse than ignoramus who thinks he knows of something

And Hildebeast show believes in providing for yourself scamming millions to herself, and most especially loves taking money from Chinese criminals ! she sneaked out of that one rightly smartly. Nothing sticks to "Teflon" Clintons and the media would rather help them fool people

Babe, Britons are flying abroad for medical treatment, ! well several answers to that, if those that can afford it want to do so that should be their choice, if they want to go private in the UK they can also do that, AND for over 20 years citizens from other European countries have been FLYING TO THE UK for private medical treatment, my stepfather was in a private clinic on the Isle of White and it was full of Scandinavians. Point is the more that can afford it and want to pay for it, lessens the wait list on the NHS who can not afford it, either way its better all round. As well as those not wanting to spend money they are entitled to NHS if they want, but do NOT EVER do away with CHOICE like Hildebeast clinton wants to do

Thing is ... for every person who points out problems with waiting for care in a socialized medicine system, I can point to 10 who got care and couldn't afford it in the American system.

And yes, I have experienced both, and I have waited for care in both.

And I waited for care in the American system far longer.

I live in American and that same thing is happening now. I work in health care and I see people checking themselves out of hospitals against the doctors advice because they DO NOT have insurance.

You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool me.
