Wow, hopefully nobody was in the house doing weird stuff while you were gone. I would suggest maybe changing the locks though. Someone could've come in and taken a set of keys so they could come back when they felt they would have more time and clean the place out. There could've been no one in the house, but changing the locks is a small price to pay considering the things they could've taken. Also, you should check and make sure you're not missing any valuable paper items such as bank statements, credit card statements, social security information. Keep a close watch on your credit. I'm not trying to scare you all over again with all of this but if they got a hold of something like that they could just about completely destroy you. If you think something of that nature could be missing then close the account and move your money somewhere else. Good luck with this, I really hope nothing was taken. But you need to take some steps to make sure that if something was taken that they can't get any more from you. Oh, and I also agree with everyone else about calling the police. You really shouldn't have just walked in.

I definitely agree with calling the police and waiting until they come. It may seem silly or inconvenient, but it will really put your mind at rest.
I would also say it may not be a bad idea to change your locks if you still have any "scared" feelings remaining. Also, if you know your neighbors, you could tell them what happened and maybe start looking out for each other.
I hope everything works out okay for you.
P.S. I just thought of something. I would report this incident to the police. Eventhough you had no problems, it will alert them to a potential problem. Also, people in your area may have had similar problems and it could help them keep track of the situation. You might be doing someone else a favor in the long run as well as stop anyone who may be breaking into people's homes, etc.

First thing is to call the police. Tell them that your door is open, and you think there may be an intruder. They will check the attic and everything in you house. The intruder part is very important. They won't come any other way. Plus you have it on record. You also may need to get locks changed- Some hardware stores have do it yourself kit. Have boyfriend help. There are also some little "loud" alarms that you can put on your door. Loud noise will alarm neighbors.

That happened to me once,
and yes, I was scared, but i went inside, nobody was in there, nothing appeared stolen, broken, or used, so I just whatever and I haven't thought about it since.
I am pretty sure my druggie neighbors broke in though, because they have multiple times before an stolen alchol and money.
If that ever happens again though, and unless you have crazy druggie neighbors like me, stay outside an call somebody.
If you do not have a cell phone on you, run to a trusted neighbors house.

Have all your locks changed right away. If you could afford it, have a security system installed (burglar alarm, etc.) If you can't afford it, ask you bf help in installing a new padlock system by yourselves. This minimizes the chance of other people having access to the new set of keys. If this happens again, call the police and don't enter you house before they clear it.

If this ever happens again, do not go in the house. Go to a neighbors or use a cell phone and call the police. Let them go through the house and advise you.

If it happens again, DO NOT GO IN. Call the police 1st & wait on them just to be on the safe side. If it is a bugluary, then the intruders may still be inside.

change the locks if concerned. otherwise remember to close the door next time. i constantly forget to either close or lock the doors. with nothing gone you were fortunate. dont let hollywood scare you.
if you want a cheap way of changing locks swap them with a friend with similar mecanisms. modern fey barrels are just held in with an allen key - take 2 mins to swap

1) Do not enter, do not panic, your life is most important
2) I am sure you have your cellphone with camera/video, keep it handy/ready
3)Go to your neighbours house from where you can see/monitor what is happening. Also see if they too can help with their phone/camera to record any visible development.
4)Call up ploce, but see if you can also inform your office to follow it up with the police.
5) Relax and think of your friends who can come in handy.
6) If there is any vehicle parked ourside your home see if you can block its exit/passage using your vehicle.
