YouTube and MySpace...and Garageband.com... SouthbySouthwest in Austin is also a huge venue to show your sh-t, sign up/save up early as the spots fill quick.
Also, create a demo and submit it to your local college radio stations and local bands' hour on major radio stations. If you can create a mass audience the labels will be tipped and you can expect a showcase. It can take years though, no quick fix.

it's very difficult to get the attention of a big record label early on,no matter how amazing your band is. start with a small label, and send demos and stuff to larger labels.you have to work your way up to the bigger ones.as for starting gigs, jsut go down to your local pub or club and ask if you can play a few songs there.usually they'll say yes,and sometimes there'll even be people in the crowd from record labels that will be willing to take you on.

start for free, friends houses, friends parties, streets, then move to community places like teen centers and such. then start asking record shops and known local venues for gigs. then try looking around well known venues for gigs. also, produce your own EP's, get a local record store to produce some of your music, then when you start getting lots of consecutive gigs, do a small tour (only a few cities near you) then try to get a medium sized record label interested by sending tapes and schedules. Keep increases your tours, keep releasing stuff on small record label, and keep this up for a while until you get enough recognition that someone picks you up, but always be sending demo's out

its all about networking

It relies upon on what you settle to interior the recording settlement. each and each guy or woman gets a "decrease", producer, author, singer, musicians. all of it is desperate previous to producing the albums. constantly, constantly, negotiate on royalties and residuals as nicely--that's once you get money whilst the music gets air play! it may desire to be as low as purely 6 cents a shot yet whilst songs like 1999 by Prince or Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen are performed--massive dollars because of the fact they nevertheless are performed 2 an prolonged time later!

sounds to me like you are way ahead of yourself....I know bands who have played for years, and are really good and not signed yet, it is VERY DIFFICULT to get the attention of a "MAJOR LABEL" they deal with people each day wanting to be stars...you need to read the history of some well known bands and how long it took before they got their first deal....some it took a decade! I think you need to find a group and then start playing local events/bars etc....good luck
