The transmission in my car went, and someone close to me wants the car because they can fix it. I haven't paid the garage that looked at my car that told me it was the transmission and that it's done. They want to tow the car (today is Sunday and the shop is closed) is this right? I just need others opinions. I don't think it is though.

If the car has been repaired you could be in trouble for just taking it. It falls under the same idea as defrauding an inn keeper, kinda of like not paying for your restaurant bill, or hotel bill. If the car has not been repaired yet, and you went and got it, the right thing to do is leave notice to the repair shop to let them know where the car is. The will wonder what happened to it on Monday morning and probably report it as stolen. If the car is in a secured area, don't take it. You could be in trouble for entering private property. If there are any diagnostic charges that are due, you will be responsible for paying these costs. One thing to keep in mind, if your friend is unable to repair your car, you may have "burned the bridge" with that shop, and you'll need to take it somewhere else to have it repaired.

If your intentions are to take it without paying for it, then this is a ridiculous question.

Since it is being towed FROM the garage, I have to assume that it is not repaired, which means you owe them their labor for checking it out. This usually isn't much, and not enough to get in toruble for.

At my garage, all cars are locked up at night and on the weekend, you couldn't get it without cutting a lock or two.

Not a good idea. How good of a mechanic is your frend. If he can not fix it then where will take it. If the garage is a respectable place and you can trust them or know them I would leave it their. This could lead to trouble in the long run.

I dont think that that would be the proper thing to do. I would wait until they are open to move the vehicle, it seems a little underhanded and shady to remove the vehicle on a Sunday.

What you are thinking about doing is illegal. You took your car there, they provided a service. Theft of service is the same as theft of property.
