Hi all,
I have noticed that sometimes when I move off in 1st and then change to 2nd and release the clutch the car jerks a bit. It doesnt happen in the high gears just mainly going into 2. Why is this?
Also, if I am in heavy traffic going slow and I am in 2nd and I press the gas, the car jerks then as well.
What seems to be the problem here?

Thanks so far.. A few more details:
- Well I dont think I am shifting too early as I normally accelerate a bit in 1st
- Also, I have been giving it a few more revs in 1st
- Also I go no where near 4-6000 rpm, usually just 1-2000 rpm.
Finally, what may be causing the car to jerk when I press the gas in 2nd when I am moving along in slow traffic - This is when the clutch has been fully released by the way.

If it jerks too much it might be the throw out bearing on the clutch.
Also, could also be that your injectors are getting clogged.
Do you drive in 2-3 gear at high rpm -4000-6000?

You are not allowing the car to speed up enough for the next gear change most the time 1st is good for across the intersection or 3 to 4 thousand PRM's then carefully slow release and engagement with a little slip smooths out the 2nd gear. Release and reapply the accelerator the drive line in low ratios will get upset causing the jerking you talk about while in 2nd gear. Practice makes perfect if your motor mounts clutch disk springs and lining material can take the wear and tear. After a while your shifts will be perfectly matched RPM to road speed and load so passengers won't feel the up shifts. Don't be afraid to rev up the motor a little.

I suspect that you are not being slow enough coming off of the clutch. You need to have just a few more revs before you change up and a few less when changing down.

If your driving habits have not changed, but the car is now doing this jerking thing. It may be time for a tune up. The spark plug wires maybe arcing out instead of going to the spark plug. Thus causing a misfire, or as you say Jerk.

Seems to me you are changing up to soon. Try startting in second gear and letting the clutch in slowly, if you get the same problem then hold bottom gear a bit longer

is it feul injected or carbureted?.. and you may just need to accelerate (pushthe gas) a lil more in second gear and what does your rpm gage say you should maintain 750 or better rpms even with the clutch in . could be your carb/injectors are in need of cleaning and reset your idle

Are you shifting into 2nd gear to early and loading down the engine.
