I like 'spitfyr's" idea of meditation. I find hand weeding relaxing. I also find each weed has it's own idiosyncrasies, some are best attacked when the ground is wet, some are easier late in the day when they have less turgur and less likely to snap, some are best pulled when tiny others when you can grab with both hands, some are best left as a cover crop until your plants are established and some are too pretty to pull. One of the most effective ways to control weeds is to lay newspaper on the soil as a barrier, moisten it so it won't blow away, and lay 2-3 inches of mulch on top. This will keep the weeds from growing from below. You will get weeds growing on top of the mulch, but they will pull right out without much effort. I like to use a hand hoe. It is my favorite tool for weeding. Also, it is good to look at weeding as a chance to meditate, rather than a chore because it does take a while, but the end result is well worth the effort.
Good Luck

I have yet to try this but having seen it done with a neighbor he uses Roundup weed killer in a basting needle to inject a small amount of weed killer next to the root of the offending weed then a couple days later he goes and pulls out a dead weed.

He said doing it this way kills the entire root where just pulling the weed often times leaves some root behind which will likely bring back another weed.

Use a small handheld rake and shovel (found in a garden store) to get all of the roots or they will come back. A weed spray always works but some people don't like the chemicals.

Weeds have a long root, so it is easier to pull when the ground is wet or damp. Pull straight up so as not to break the stem.
