I'm twenty years old, male, and have a fair amount of chest and belly hair.

I hate it. My girlfriend wants it gone too.

If I shave it off, will it do the same thing as my facial hair and grow back thicker and stronger, or will I just have to shave it every now and then?

Your girlfriend should learn to accept you the way you are. I suppose it's harmless to shave it, but it's a hassle, and why should you have to? Real men are hairy -- she should just get over it.

Please do not even consider laser. This woman is not married to you, and your next gf may find your hair a major turnON. Then you are stuck looking like a plastic sexless Ken doll while she's sad that you don't have a rug. Permanent solutions to temporary problems are never good.

No hair grows back thicker and stronger because of shaving, that is just bull. Hair is dead tissue so cutting it does not effect how it grows!

As to removing it-- not a lot of point in shaving it off, since it will start growing right back, unless you just include an extra routine once a week, maybe on the weekend to shave off the body hair. Let your girlfriend do it, make it fun. Since you may soon get growth on your back too, really helpful to have someone cut that off. You can also groom it, shaving off some and leaving say a nice thatch of chest hair that accents your pecs, if present.

Yes, it will likely grow back thicker and rougher.
The only thing you can do that will for certain work is have the laser hair removal. There are some other procedures that are more painful than that - not as new.

But are you sure you want to do this for THIS girl? There are women out there who like chest hair.

Maybe she isn't for you if she is wanting to change this about you. Now if you too don't like it, that is a different story. But if it is on your mind now b/c of her, I thought I would just add that thought.

Just get laser hair removal and then it will be gone forever. Even if you get just 1 treatment the hair will be dramatically reduced.
