Asking for help is different than having someone do it for you. Teachers dont expect you to know everything, so they understand if you have to ask for help now and then. Some of the material is very difficult.
Is it cheating to use a dictionary to look up a word in your history textbook? No. Yu are using a resources. Other people can be used as resources too. A lot of the time, it helps you understand the material better.

Doing the work for them is cheating. Most people here provide links or give them a tad of help.
Besides, even IF you do their work, the absorb it so it helps them a little.
I mean ALL homework help comes from the lecture or books, all it means is they didn't study.
And it's not like ANYONE here is asking for help on their BRAIN SUGERY WORK
To be frank, most teachers and text books don't give you enough info for hard math questions.
Second, I've seen some solutionis to hard math questions, like FACTORING and four of them come up with the SAME results but do the factoring differently.
So is one wrong or right.
Supposedly in MATH there is only ONE WAY to do it right.

You can help a student in different ways. Some directly ask for all the work to be done for them. They want you to write a poem or an essay for example. Others try to do their work and get stuck or want ideas so that they can continue.
Those are real differences between those who should get help and those who do not even deserve to the use of a computer.

I agree with you, for the most part. I think, asking for direction is one thing. But I can't believe it when people on this website actually give these students the actual answers!! As a teacher, I think its FINE to help them, guide them in the right direction, or to help them with the steps they need to take in order to do a problem on their own. But when people just give these people the answers, it drives me crazy!!! It IS cheating, and really, what are the students learning??

You might think this but there are some who need direction in solving the problem. What good is it to beat your head against a wall for 2 hours on a problem when you can get help from others who are willing to give it. It all depends on how a person uses the answer. It helps to have someone who can talk you through the work that sometimes you can't get in the classroom. My son comes to me for physics help and I'm totally clueless. But when we post the questions, we can usually find someone who can help us see what we need to do to get on the right track.

There are often ways of helping a person who's stuck on a homework problem without giving them the answer or doing it for them. Teachers can help them at school; parents can help at home; there are homework hotlines in some communities; why not us?

It depends on how the person who answers the question answers it.
There are times a person has no idea how to answer.
I try very hard to give direction not just the answers.
People who just tell answers aren't helping the person learn.
