I'm writing an essay on the Battle of the Somme during World war One and my text book is really difficult to understand. Can anyone give me some important points or subjects that i should cover? Thanks a lot.

I think there is a better choice than Wikipedia to find information on the Battle of the Somme, and World War I.

Try: www. firstworldwar.com - then click on 'The Somme'

There is an in-depth overview of the battle, as well as a map, photographs, Haig's despatch, the official German account of the offensive by General von Steinacker and more.

do no longer lay the blame on Haig - that's unfair. He did no longer choose for the placement or time of the conflict (his politicalmasters did that). He knew that his military (a sparkling style of military - produced from huge numbers of civilian volunteers almost none of whom had any adventure) wasn't waiting for a huge offensive on the size predicted. He became into over-governed. international conflict One became into damaging - yet because of state of protection rigidity technology on the time; no longer because of incompetence of the generals. If Haig became into at fault, so have been Joffre, Petain, Nivelle, Foch, von Moltke, Hindenburg, Ludendorff, Hotzendorf, Pershing.... a rapid look on the figures instruct that approximately 12% of all British troops who served lost their lives. For Germany, this became into sixteen%; for France 18%. a minimum of, Haig could have been doing something much less incorrect than his contemporaries.
