Imagine spending 3-4 days having to scrape away pieces of vinyl about 1 to 5 sq. inches at a time, using a blowdryer that's as hot as a blowtorch in a confined space during the summer in a house with no A.C. while covered in acid.
Parenting is a cakewalk compared to stripping really old vinyl flooring off of winding staircase using a putty knife, some acid, and what is essentially a very hot blowdryer. Granted, raising a child is a far greater responsibility, and far more important and time consuming, but there is so much to enjoy.
Stripping that vinyl floor was just plain grueling -- the most laborious task I've ever had to complete, and apart from the paycheck -- not very rewarding.

Taking care of my younger siblings when my Mom and Dad got divorced. I was 18 and the oldest. My Mom had just had my youngest sister. So there was a newborn, and all these kids. There are 9 of us... And my Mom was devestated when my Dad left her for someone else and then divorced her. It was the hardest time of all of our lives. But we survived and became closer than ever as brothers and sisters... and to our Mom.
