I wonder what would happen to Karl Rove and his posse in the hypothetical case where they lose the civil suit brought on by the CIA operative they betrayed.

Treason is defined in the US Constitution. Only one person, Adam Yahiye Gadahn, has been charged with treason since 1952 and he is still at large. The punishment would vary but could go as high a the death penalty (I believe.)

That has nothing to do with civil suits. The only "punishment" in civil suits is a money settlement.

The ultimate treason punishment is death. The next is life without parole. There are about 6 people serving life in Parisian for treason, including one former FBI agent and a family of sailors.

Karl Rove was not charged with treason. His civil suit will adjudicated by a civil court with a jury to decide if he is right. This will have no effect on his prison sentence.

Can the Americans that are joining isis be charged with treason? I have not heard of this on the news channels. This is the punishment that this people need to receive.

In the U.S. politicians and the media are rewarded for treason it seems.

If convincingly proven (which it doesn't exist in this case), it's the death penalty.
