They do not want democracy. They want their particular sect to rule and will kill to do it. Why do we continue to keep our brave soldiers in harms way for these thankless people?

The vast number of Iraqis do want democracy and don't want to kill each other, so your premise is incorrect.
It's true that a significant minority, supported in part by outside interests and in part by Saddam's old confederates, is perpetrating a great deal of death.
It's also true that the US probably can't stop it single-handedly, but it can help.
And neither Iraq nor the US will be out of danger until the larger Islamist terrorist threat is addressed.
