i already asked this question but 2 people only answered it. i have a 5 gallon tank with two platys and two other small fish. i got them about 2 months ago. One of them hides in the corner all day and looks a little bigger than usual. But it could just be normally growing. but i know somthing wrong with it because it always used to swim around and now it just hides behind the plant. is it pregnant, sick, or is somthing else wrong with it. thanks!

Well it's very possible
Here is an article on how to breed livebearers with pics included
http://www.fishlesscycling.com/articles/breeding_tropical_fish.html
Right where the anal fin is, there should be an orange or red spot, which is the gravid spot

how about adding a pic here?
that would help

Hope that helps
Good luck

A pregnant fish is very easy to identify from a fish that has simply overeaten. A pregnant fish's bulge is at the back part of her stomach, while a fish that over ate is bulged at her chest. The gestation period for a pregnant livebearer is about 1 month. The easiest way to tell if a livebearer is ready to give birth is her change in normal tank activity. Livebearers such as platies can become either aggressive or passive when ready to give birth.

She should be wanting to be alone by chasing fish out of her area, or quietly swimming away from the rest of the fish into a remote area of the tank. This will happen for a few hours, until the other fish learn to stay away from her. During this phase (depending on how ready she is) she may swoop down to the bottom, and "drop" a baby, turn around to look at it (at which time she may eat it) and then swim away as if nothing took place. This is a natural way of protecting her babies from other fish.

It sounds like you may have other issues if she is hiding all the time, check your water quality and temperature, etc.

Good Luck to you and have fun if you get lotsa babies!

look at the back area of the fish under where the poop shoot is. if it is dark and bigger than the other fish that are her type then most likely yes she is pregnant. you need to get what they call a birthing box that hangs on the side of the tank inside and has a divider close to the bottom w/ slits in it so the babies can sink to the bottom and not be eaten.

and the lizard thing from the other guy try getting a "pinky" from the pet store and try feeding it to him.

in case you have male fish on your tank they'll fertilize the eggs, if no longer then the fish will only lay the eggs. you will get birthing pods for the fish or only placed a number of of organic plant life interior the tank and the fish will lay the eggs interior the plant life and the boys will do their element. then in case you decide directly to - take the plant life and eggs out and placed them in separate water and notice in the event that they hatch. i've got accomplished this with my pond goldfish and function a number of of toddler goldfish in a tank interior the kitchen, i did have approximately 50 fry yet i placed the smaller ones back interior the pond and nonetheless have approximately 14 bigger fish left. the small ones interior the pond will ought to be smart to steer away from being eaten and that i will shop approximately 8 of those interior the kitchen. i'm making plans to place the rest back into the pond while they are too enormous to be eaten.

The plattys in my tank prefer to hide in the rocky area in my tank but still come out for food, but when my swordtail was about to drop she was also hiding in this rocky area and chasing the platys away. Which breed of fish is it thats hiding?
