Hi Victoria - just to confirm that the National Curriculum makes it obligatory for teachers to include use of computers etc in most school work. 'They' (i.e. in this case the government quango which devised the National Curriculum) made a lot of mistakes, in my opinion - this is just one of them! I would suggest that you ask your parents to write to the school pointing out the problem, or bring it up at your school council if you have one. The school should make it possible for you to use their computers for such work when they're up and running. In the meantime, I'm sure your teachers will make allowances for any insurmountable problems. Don't take it out on your teachers - the poor s**s are just trying to follow orders!

First of all, there is no apostrophe after the word "always" as it is NOT something that could possess something...whether opinions, assets, etc. and you are not abbreviating anything such as in "don't" for "do not".
Second, if you expect life to give you everything, you are going to have a rude awakening some time. Why should the teachers pay for it? Why don't YOU get an after school job and pay for it?
Don't you realize that the ONLY way you are ever going to be successful in life and own jets, boats, a fantastic house and lots of other luxuries is through EDUCATION, HARD WORK and PERSEVERANCE? You do not get anywhere by giving up and maybe that is one of the lessons that your teacher(s) are trying to give you!
If you do not have all that you need to do an assignment, then you should at least be smart enough to find a place that does, like libraries at the school. Therefore, either during study period or after school, go to the library, instead of going to hang out with your friends or sitting someplace saying "I'll go eat worms because I do not have a TV", waiting until the materials appear by magic. It is a good thing you do NOT have a TV, otherwise, you would believe all the nonsense in it.

Because although you may not have a computer at home (but how are you on the internet now) there is no reason why absolutely everyone can't access a computer. All libraries have them now and I'm sure your school encourages you to use their computers. If not, why not suggest they set up a computer club out of school hours for students to do their homework on and research etc.

It's true that it s assumed everyone has these things today. If you don't you can always use the facilities at your local library (if you're from the UK that is).
They should be free to use, so long as you are a member of the facility & if you're not, you could always join!

You need to tell your teacher that you don't have access to these things unless you are at school. Maybe they will make some concessions since you aren't able to have it at home.

School is NOT about learning but about FOLLOWING THE RULES
If the TEACHER demands a RED BOOK COVER you must have RED not GREEN or BLUE.
To be frank, the United States Supreme Court uses the same principals.
If THIS YEAR a red cover is required and you use a blue cover you must RE-FILE.
It's called politics and I hate it.
But that's life!

HAH!
I call youngster!
You got it so easy - In my day teachers expected us to type everything. yes *typewriters* - and no I didn't have one. AND there was no internet. 3 *book* research rule made me run around to different libraries. how many different libraries near you? photocopies? 5 cents per page.
It took planning and time management.
And as my dad and every other dad used to say, we had to walk to school too.

I know exactly what you mean! They all ASSUME you have all this new tecnology. I was told to watch a TV program and write an essay about it... you should have seen the look on my teachers face when I told her we didn't have a TV! lol Loved it!

Usually the school library also has these things and you could consider staying back and working in there. Or are you trying to make excuses for not completing work on time.
And obviously you do have access to a computer as you are on here complaining about it.

Teachers believe you will spend the extra needed time in a library (school, home, or public) to do the research needed to complete the assignment.
