I have a WGT624v3 Wireless Firewall Router from NetGear, It worked on my old computer but I have a new one now and I can't make it work. I think I was suppose to download some files from http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101649.asp and http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WGT624v3.asp but I don't know what to do after I've downloaded them.. they're just files.

I think it has something to do with the routers access place which is http://192.168.1.1 but it doesnt ever come up..

and on this page I tried to follow the steps but no networks ever come up. http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101692.asp
and this page REALLY confused me. http://kbserver.netgear.com/inquira/default.asp?ui_mode=answer&prior_transaction_id=156673&action_code=5&highlight_info=16777285,42,46&turl=http%3A%2F%2Fkbserver.netgear.com%2Fkb_web_files%2FN101496.asp&answer_id=6972361

Listen to the guy that said you don't need a program or software or anything other than a browser, he is correct. After you have plugged in an ethernet cable to one of the router ports (not the one marked WAN). Do this:

1) Go to Start --> Accessories --> Command Prompt
2) Once it opens type ipconfig it will return several lines of information.
3) Whatever it shows you for Default Gateway is the address of your router
4) You can use this in a browser to reach the router

If it doesn't return any address there is usually a reset button on the router (small and you have to press it with a pen or paper clip) and you can use this to reset the router to factory specifications. Leave power on and hold button in until the lights flash. That should bring it back to how it was when you bought it and you can go from there.

You really DONT need any files, cd or anything, other than a WEB browser - Like Internet Explorer to configure your router. It could care less that you have the CD etc.

Open a web browser and go to
http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar depends on which one netgear used
You can also try this address in your address bar
http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm

You HAVE TO CONNECT to your router with an ethernet cable to configure the router - don't even think of trying this wirelessly (it usually will not work period) Once an ethernet cable is connected you can see which address is in use. On the control panel, network adapters, click on the "active Local Area - Connected" icon. Click the "support tab" Look for the Gateway IP address -- that is your routers address.

There are a few "got you's" with the Netgear you have.

If that block gets enabled, your computer is "locked" out until you fix it!

Good Luck

Does your new computer connected to the router using cable? If not, you might want to try connecting with LAN cable first. Tell the sales assistant that you want to connect your computer to the router. Because cross-over and straight cables are not the same, and if you got the wrong one, you would not be able to connect to the router.

I had a similar problem with my LinkSys wireless router. I could not connect to my router wirelessly. So finally I used LAN cable to connect to it, access http://192.168.1.1 and changed some settings (like turning off wierless security, later I turned it on again).

Good luck.

i had huge trouble with my router too. With nothing working, i had to call a professional to install and fix it. I was charged around $100 for installation and troubleshooting.

Stores like compusa, do send technicians to your house to install it. Your cable internet company technician can install your router too.

For me, i just couldn't do it on my own. I tried belkin, netgear and finally linksys (which was installed by my cable internet technician).

You're looking at around $100 cost, if u seek professional help in installing it.
