hi, i know there is a lot of chlorine in the tap water. i heard that if i leave some water in buckets under the sun for a day or two it helps to eliminate all the harmful chemicals. And the water is much better/pure to use in ones organic garden.
short of spending money to buy filtered bottle water for my garden what to do? how to avoid having insects like mosquitoes attracted is there some natural repellent?
thanx

As long as you don't let it stand for more than a couple of weeks you should be just fine. There are products you can get that are used in small ponds to kill the mosquito larva. They are also used by people who collect and store rain water for their gardens. I don't know what it is called, but it comes in table form and can be purchased a just about any garden center. As for purifying the water, letting it set for 24 hours is enough to lose the chlorine, but outside plants rarely suffer from chlorine like indoor plants because the soil filters out most of it.
Good Luck

You can let the water stand in buckets if you want to, but just pouring it on the soil will release the chlorine even faster. I am all for organic gardening but worrying about the chlorine in the water is going a bit further than necessary,
There really is no effective repellent for mosquitoes, and you don't need to let the water stand that long to remove the chlorine anyway, 8 hr. is enough. That is about what I do for my aquarium. You can speed that up by using an aquarium air pump and air stone. 1 hr. for a 5 gal. bucket is plenty

Yes letting your water stand for a number of hours, not days will let the chlorine evaporate (that's why pets like toilet water, it has a chance to stand and they don't like the cholorine from the tap).
Soaking egg shells in the water is a good natural fertilizer.
Water, garlic and a dash of mild dishsoap can be sprayed on leaves and dirt surrounding plants and this help with many insects though of course not all.

The chlorine offgasses almost immediately when the water emerges into atmospheric pressure, i.e. comes out of the faucet.. It doesn't matter anyway since plants don't take up chlorine.

Don't leave standing water open to the air and you won't have mosquitos.

I grew up on a farm and adored green beans. Can consume them simple, or with potatoes. Simply add half of stick of butter and simmer until heated via. French reduce beans are simpler to digest and have a ways much less style than commonplace reduce beans. Another combine is corn, carrots, and green beans
