Most dealers prefer that you bring it back to them for the services. But you can also go to an approved service shop that performs warranty services. All that usally needs to be done is an approved machanic needs to be the one doing the work.

Any new bike can be serviced anywhere as long as the person who works on the bike is "competent" and uses "approved" parts

Competent - If the bike goes pop it is down to you to prove that you have had the bike serviced inline with the manufacturers written gudelines by a qualified person

Approved - Got to be Manufacturer "OEM" parts

Why get it serviced at a Dealership? - Simple, your dealer will have invested thousands in specialist equipment, their Technicians (Mechanics) will have attended Manufacturer training courses and would have had to pass exams. The dealer will have to conform to very strict manufacturer guides for quality control AND all of these things will be constantly updated, PLUS one of the special tools will be a digi-tech (hand held computer) which has specific software only available from the manufacturer to the dealer which keeps your bike in top condition AND updates the central computer every time you have it serviced so it adds value AND ensures that you get any recalls done (if any)

You may well save a few £'s elsewhere BUT do you really want to risk all of the above to save a few quid?

Your first service may well be free (or certainly less than £60) and any Yamaha dealer can do it for you

Most selling dealers carry out the first running in service free of charge and after that they would prefer you to give them your money than give it to anyone else. However you can take it to any authorised dealer anywhere that suits you.

Regards having it done at a non authorised repairer. Legislation came in that would allow you to do this but the manufacturers came up with a cunning plan. In order to carry out the service to their standard one item on the schedule is to check on their diagnostics for any registered faults within the electronic system. They then make it near impossible for anyone to obtain the software. So now you are stuck with the authorised dealer during the warranty period

That said you should be able to find one that you are happy with. Usually word of mouth is the best form of recommendation so ask around. Then get a firm price for the service and do not authorise any further work withour prior consent. At least you will know how much it will cost and have a report of any other work necessary to bring your bike up to standard.

Good luck and happy biking
