Here it is word for word from the factory shop manual.

Remove the seat.

Reconnect these 4 pin connectors to their opposite gray to black and black to gray.
Turn on the ignition switch.

Let it flash for at least 5 seconds. (More than 5 is ok.)
While observing the belt check indicator light, turn off the ignition switch.
Disconnect the mismatched 4 pin connector sets and reconnect them normally.
Connect the belt switch 2 pin connector.
Turn on the ignition switch.

Make sure the battery is charged and connected.
Coming out of the belt cover (right side of engine) is the wire for the belt light switch.
Follow it up and disconnect it.
In that area are 2 other connectors (a gray & a black).
Disconnect them.
Plug the gray into the black and the black into the gray.
Turn on the key.
I forget the exact procedure after that -
Either turn on the key for 5 seconds and then turn it off.
OR turn on the key, wait for the belt light to start flashing, stop flashing, turn on, or turn off.
Then turn off the key and connect all the wires back together properly.

Sounds like you have a serious timing issue, and the "Belt" light might indicate a timing belt. Take it back. If you've only had it for a month, you've definitely got a warranty case.

the warning light is working, its doing its job, you need to replace the belt!
you should of known that when you bought it, and thats a normal wear item that needs replaced often
most guys with belt smokers carry an extra belt and tools with them.
