Assumptions are to knowledge what opinions are to facts.

Several agreeing assumptions/opinions can only conclude to a more agreeable and believable assumption/opinion.

Several facts can conclude to either an assumption/opinion or a fact.

There is an italian proverb that goes.

L'aritimetica e' non' e opinione'.

Arithmetic is not an opinion.

Facts are facts, opinions are opinions.

2 + 2 = 4 Fact.
2 + X = 4 maybe, could be, it did yesterday.

Today, people just want to be accepted as being right, as being intelligent. To them, that's more important. That thier opinion is accepted as the right one and only possible conclusion.

What most do not understand or care to understand is that it is more important to make sure the right thing gets done, not just said.

definitely. we don't always make the distinction, often because we do not remember properly. like those childhood memories which you can't quite be sure are more than stories and photos and fragments of other people's memories which have been replayed so often you think you remember...and once something enters the bloodstream it becomes a part of the whole. know what i mean? assumptions also derive great strength from numbers - i mean from having become well accepted and/or popular. they can have an insidious way of penetrating the realm of accepted theory and knowledge. the more credibility is lent to them the stronger they become. ok, i think i'm gonna start rambling, so i'll just say: think about nazism and the pseudo-scientific phrenological seal it was given. that's just one example, there are thousands!
