I honestly don't get it. Four scallies from a town near North Wales, ripping off bad American rock'n'roll music. A drummer whose talent was so limited that he could only narrate Thomas The Tank Engine after they split up. A mediocre guitarist whose entire solo 'career' was based on a song about a crying guitar. A guy who can't even read music, whose melodies are sickly, and who is responsible for one of the biggest crimes against music, "The Frog Chorus". And to top it all off, a guy who thought he was Jesus, with not one melodic bone in his body, and whose hideously nasal whining made Bob Dylan sound like Marvin Gaye.

Just what is the appeal with this band???

Coo, don't hold back!!

I am of the complete opposite side of the fence to you, but I can see your point.

The reason(s) why I think the Beatles are great:

They made very complicated songs sound very simple, and their use of melody and harmony is very clever.

They never stuck to a tried and tested style. They began as a boy band which was phenomenally successful for them, but they delved into other genres which proved to be equally good.

Paul McCartney's lyrics were, again, very simple but genius! "Paperback Writer" springs to mind...

They were the first "boy band" in the world. Girls everywhere loved Elvis but when you suddenly get four cute young lads in your face? Well, as you know, the girly world went wild!

Even though they were globally massive, they were still boy-next-door types.

In my opinion, they were never as good as solo artists as they were when they were the Beatles, but "While my Guitar Gently Weeps" is a lovely song! Heathen!!

I see what you're saying, because I have the same problem with Elvis (just don't get it) but then I can't argue with 50 years of success!

Just try to forget it. It's obviously getting you down. Try thinking of Cilla instead...

Do you know the meaning of the word scally? Obviously not, seeing as the Beatles were far from scallies!
You obviously deem yourself to have more talent than them, so go ahead and show us! The Beatles were extremely talented and gelled well together as a group. They were real people, not false or pretentious, and that was part of their appeal. Many of their songs have a deeper meaning than they appear to, and there are so many Beatles tribute bands. I am from Liverpool, but that it is not the reason I like The Beatles. I truly admire their talent, even if you do not.

Oh where to start????????????

A town near North Wales? That`ll be LIVERPOOL then, one of the U.K.`S biggest most famous and historical cities. (Which has produced loads of musical talent incidentally)

Ringo could play. No doubt about it. Thomas came years later.

By mediocre you mean George Harrison........??Hmmmm

The fact that McCartney couldn`t read music and wrote and composed some of the best rock and roll melodies and close harmonies ever .......is amazing. Let´s allow him the frog song eh? It wasn`t in his Beatles days either!!

And as for Lennon, when did he ever claim to be Jesus?
The writer of Imagine "not one melodic bone in his body"
millions beg to differ with you there!

You don`t like them but you can`t possibly ignore their influence on modern music.

Something tells me I won`t get best answer here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea. I mean, some of their songs were good, but I honestly believe that all the people who like them now are just giving into the hype and the fact that listening to an old band makes them more "cultured" or something...I don't really like them.

I think that way sometimes about them because they are so big, so popular so overdone, but then I have to give it to them because the music is good for it's time. Especially Yesterday I used to love to play that one on the flute.

I am just glad that there finally is a lot more variety to chose from though.

The Beatles had at least one educated musician. My guess is they all were, except Ringo. Anyone with even the slightest knowledge of music theory would recognize the Beatles were genius.

They did produce some rather extraordinarily good music. Listen to Strawberry Fields Forever, that's an excellent one.

You may have your own opinion, but that doesn't mean that The Beatles' music is popular for no reason.
