Your vehicle may have a sensor on master cylinder that lets you know when the fluid gets too low. Some master cylinders has a "float" on the cap when you remove it or it may be on the reservoir itself. First check the brake fluid in the reservoir, add if necessary, If that does not solve the problem, you either have a faulty sensor in the master cylinder or the hand brake switch is bad.

There is a a float inside the under hood resv. on top of the brake master Cyl. Always Clean brand new fluid should be used (DOT#3) add just a little then go have your brakes inspected. As pads and shoes wear the fluid level drops in the resv. then the low fluid light turns on.

there is a sensor on the plungers in the master cylinder if it gets unbalanced one way or another (more toward the front breaks or the rear) it will cause your break light to come on your best options would be to take it to a mechanic and have them check it out most likely what it is is a wheel cylinder or something of that liking gone bad. Shouldn't cost much but breaks are not something to mess with especially if you are unsure what you are doing. Remember your car weighs in excess of 2000 lbs gotta have stopping power
