...one example would be if a person had an issue with another person, it would be very respectful to approach the person "privately" rather than publicly humiliate them

Edit: Is it lacking today ?...I can only give the vague answer that I think it's a troubling matter of greater consequence than years gone by...so, yes...I guess it is

Oh yes, it is definitely lacking in our society. Respect means to be kind and appreciative of others.

Today's society lacks values. Important values like education, family, personal growth. Instead everyone is concerned with having the latest sneaker, dance step, and keeping up with their friends. My personal pet peeve would be teenagers today seem to be a group of clones wearing and doing the same things. i.e. Tmobile sidekick. Drives me crazy when they sit together and they all pop their phone open at the same time. uhh.!

It means showing the willingness and Patience to listen to ANY person and giving cognisance to a point of view that does not necessarily agree with your own and politely pointing out any obvious faults in their views That way it is possible for you to learn things from other people and eventually gain trust These things should be be taught from a very young age at home, failing that at school

Respect for me is being willing to accept other people's differences - even if they look different from you, have a different religion, or come from a different country. It also means treating other people the way you'd want to be treated.
That doesn't mean all behaviours should be tolerated. Behaviours that disrespect or hurt others, like being mean or bullying, or behaviours that break social rules, like lying or stealing, should not be tolerated. Respect is about accepting people for who they are, for their best selves - not about accepting bad behaviour.
And I think respect is lacking today ... unfortunately...

Respect is alive & well around me.
I am a senior and I am so pleased with the way I am treated by the men in Texas. Especially the younger ones. Also in Texas are men from every state. Seems to me they go out of their way to help or assist me & my Hubby. I have 3 grown sons & I have mentioned this to each of them. It pleases them, as they say they do likewise.
Praise God for these Gentlemen !!! ~~~~~~~
